Elizabeth Steel, co-owner of Smalltown Coffee Co., has joined the Board of Directors of the Highland Community Foundation.
Steel is a 2003 graduate of Highland High School and a 2013 graduate of Goshen College. She has spent time living overseas and has past experience in the medical field and working with at-risk children. She currently lives in Highland and is the co-owner, along with Annette McKeown, of Smalltown Coffee Co., a Northwest Indiana coffee roastery.
HCF partnered with Smalltown in 2017 to create a special roast of coffee for the Town of Highland. Public input was obtained through two public taste tests, and a Highland artist, Jessica Haug, was chosen to provide the artwork for the coffee packaging. The coffee became available for sale in October, 2017. Smalltown has donated a portion of the sales proceeds from Highland Roast to HCF for its ongoing “Highland Has Art” program.
The coffee is available for purchase online at Smalltown’s website at smalltown.coffee/shop-coffee/, as well as at several other local outlets, and was recently was made available for sale at the Highland Strack & VanTil store at 9632 Cline Avenue. A link for the Smalltown website can also be found on the Foundation’s website at www.highlandcommunityfoundation.org.
